Illini defeat Western Michigan in Beckman's debut

Illinois defeated Western Michigan 24-7 in the Illini coaching debut of Tim Beckman.  Starting quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase passed for 126 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a touchdown before leaving the game with an ankle injury.  He did not return. The Illini travel to Arizona State next week.
