Tim Beckman is the new head football coach of the University of Illinois.  Beckman was introduced at a press conference this afternoon at Memorial Stadium.  He says he is excited to be a part of Illini Nation.

Beckman has spent the last three seasons as head coach at Toledo, amassing a 21-16 overall record (14-2 in MAC last two seasons.) Beckman has made coaching stops at Oklahoma State, Ohio State, and Bowling Green.  Beckman is a defensive-minded coach with a background as a defensive coordinator

Athletic Director Mike Thomas said Beckman's contract is worth $9 million over five years. His annual base salary is $1.6 and will escalate from there with bonuses.

He replaces Ron Zook, who was fired after seven seasons at Illinois.
