Robert W. Shafer, DMD, MSDr.
Shafer has been practicing orthodontics for 13 years. Dr. Shafer
received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University and
then went on to receive his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from Southern
Illinois University (1992) where he was second in his class. He
received his master's degree in orthodontics from Marquette University
(1994). Dr. Shafer and his wife, Michelle, have three children, Lane,
Sydney and Ella. He and Michelle grew up in Catlin, Ill., and they now
reside in Mahomet. Dr. Shafer became interested in orthodontics as a
result of his experience with his orthodontist. This experience helped
him realize the importance of a beautiful smile and how it affects a
person's self-esteem. BOARD CERTIFICATIONDr.
Shafer was certified as a Diplomate of The American Board of
Orthodontics (ABO) in February 2005. The American Board of Orthodontics
is the only certifying organization for the specialty of orthodontics
that is recognized by the American Dental Association and sponsored by
the American Association of Orthodontists. The American Board of
Orthodontics was established in 1929 and was the third certifying board
in the health professions and the first in dentistry. Board
certification is an elective process. It is intended to provide
assurance to the public that an orthodontic specialist has successfully
completed an approved educational program and an evaluation process
which includes an examination designed to assess the knowledge, skills
and clinical expertise required to provide quality patient care.
Completion of this process is an indication of an orthodontist's
commitment to a high level of treatment excellence. MISSION STATEMENTThe
mission of Dr. Robert Shafer and his staff is to provide orthodontic
patients with the highest quality of care and comfort. Dr. Shafer's
practice is dedicated to improving the quality of life to our patients
through educated orthodontic care and teaching. We treat with high
priority the individualized, unique needs and wants each patient brings
to the practice. Dr. Shafer's practice is a team of dedicated
health care professionals serving our patients with the highest levels
