Reported by: Dave Benton / WCIA 3 Monday, Jun 8, 2009 @02:56pm CDT CHAMPAIGN - A woman is hit in the head with a hammer inside a bar. But that was just the beginning of this ordeal. In Crime Watch tonight, police are looking for several suspects in connection to this case. It all started at the Chester Street Bar Monday, May 25th. A woman inside was approached by another. The other woman asked the first one if she knew who she was. Before she could answer, the suspect hit her in the head with a hammer. The victim ran out and was chased by the suspect and several others people. They caught her a few blocks away on East Church Street. This time another woman in the group was armed with a pipe. The victim got away and the group took off. Amy Swartzwelder with the Champaign Police Department says, "It's probably more like domestic related. The suspect obviously knew the victim, but the victim did not recognize the suspect." Police say two of the suspects were black women about 25 years old. One was 5-feet 7-inches tall, 140 pounds with a birthmark on the right side of her face. The other was 5-feet 11-inches tall, 170 pounds. They may have been driving a white Ford Explorer with a partial plate: 621. Police say they were with four men. The victim was treated at the hospital for her injuries. The same night, another fight was reported at Chester Street Bar involving a woman with a hammer. But the victim and suspect in this second fight were gone when Champaign police arrived.
