Reported by: Dave Benton / WCIA 3 Tuesday, May 5, 2009 @09:37pm CDT More than two thousand children are reported missing everyday in the U.S. But the story of one boy still grips Decatur. TJ Davison was just four-years-old when he vanished. It happened at Brettwood Village Shopping Center October 10, 1985. Davison had fallen a sleep, so his aunt left him in the car when she stopped to grocery shop at Kroger's. He was gone when she came out. His mother says the doors were still locked. Debra Lucas says, "There was nothing I could do. I was helpless." Police launched an all out search and checked numerous leads. Lt. David Dickerson says, "Decatur Police worked on the case as well as the Illinois State Police and the FBI had some involvement on it as well." But they didn't find the boy. Police searched wooded areas in and around Decatur. They also checked a creek in Forsyth in 1988. But again, nothing. His mother says the past 24 years have been tough. She describes unwanted anniversaries and a wound that keeps getting bigger. Dickerson says the case remains open and active. Investigators have followed up on leads in recent years. But admits it's been a tough investigation. He points out they didn't have DNA, Amber Alerts or security cameras back in the 1980's. Lucas lives in Florida, where she raised her two other children. But says a day doesn't go by, she doesn't think of the son who vanished. Lucas asks, "If somebody has him or knows somebody who has information, I would beg them to let me know because I need closure." If you have any information call Decatur Police at 424-2711 or Crimestoppers of Decatur and Macon County at 423-TIPS.
