He signed an executive order in honor of earth day (Wednesday) to make sure they do it. The first place the governor’s making changes is at his home. Governor Quinn is replacing all of the lights in the Executive Mansion with LED bulbs, which use 90-percent less energy. It could save the state thousands of dollars a year. More than 100 bulbs have already been switched out. The next step is to upgrade the hundreds of chandlers throughout the building. A Northern Illinois company donated all of the light bulbs for free. The governor is also using rain barrel's to save. They store water that can be used for gardening. The governor ordered all state agencies to cut solid waste by 40-percent in the next 10 years. He also wants to cut back on the use of office paper by 10-percent. |
