“When it comes to sports I want to provide the community with a variety of highlights and features,” Bennett stated, “My goal is to really bring the public inside the story.”
Born in Anadarko, Oklahoma Bennett grew up in the small town of Pleasant Plains, Illinois. Bennett’s college years were spent at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. Central Missouri, at KOMU-TV, is where Bennett started his professional career, but he is excited about being back in Illinois and working for WCIA3. As a member of the Illinois Broadcasters Association, Bennett said, “The best part about being a news leader is working with other news leaders. Everyone has a passion for news and a passion for telling stories. It’s a great environment!” Feature sports stories are Bennett’s favorite part of being a sports reporter. “My most memorable story was one I did about a wide receiver on a high school football team, who had no hands,” Bennett recalled, “It was a rewarding experience to get to know the athlete and share his story.” Bennett encourages community members to contact him with stories about athletes overcoming tremendous obstacles or doing something else very noteworthy. Bennett can’t shake his passion for sports, in his free time he enjoys watching sports, and going to sport events, but he also loves spending time with family and friends. “What I enjoy most about WCIA3 is the chance to be involved with sports everyday.” Bennett stated, “The chance to tell an interesting story about sports is what keeps me coming to work everyday.” |
