“I asked a ton of questions as a kid, and my dad would always say, ’she’s going to be my reporter.’
Shade says, “I just like to know how things work.”
Tinisha attended school at Georgetown-Ridge Farm High and went on to graduate from Danville Area Community College in Danville with an Associate’s Degree. Following graduation from DACC, Shade enrolled at Illinois State University. That’s when she says she really started to get her feet wet.
“Illinois State had a live newscast every afternoon. I anchored and reported a few times a week, and it prepared me for the real world of journalism.”
Shade was awarded the Illinois Broadcaster’s Association Multicultural Internship Grant in May 2005. Right out of college in 2005, Shade interned with WCIA/WCFN. One month into the internship, Shade was offered a job. She says, “I was ecstatic! Who wouldn’t be thrilled to work at the best station in the market right out of college? “
Shade started as a producer, and later worked her way into reporting, then earned a seat at the anchor desk on weekends.
"I love the fact that so many people are counting on me to get it right. It's rewarding to be one of the people who keeps the community informed about what's going on in their neighborhood," Shade commented.
She loves the responsibility. Stories that impact children catch Shades' eyes the most. "Anytime there's a story on the table that involves kids, I'm all over it. I'm the oldest in my family, and I have a child of my own now. So naturally, I am very protective of kids."
She and her husband Tony have a toddler. Lincoln Anthony joined the family in February 2008. Shade says being a mom has changed her life for the better. "I have someone watching every move I make, and I just want to set a good example and make him proud of me."
Shade likes to spend her free time chasing Lincoln around the house, reading fashion magazines, and trying new teas. She also keeps busy taking care of the family dogs and spending time at her parent's house.
