Monday, Oct 26, 2009 @02:40pm CDT CHAMPAIGN - Someone's ordering food. But that's not all they want. Three delivery drivers run into danger. In Crime Watch tonight, police need your help to find the person ripping off delivery drivers. It happened three days in a row. The first was Saturday October 10th in the 700-block of West Clark Street. Then the next night in the 500-block of West White Street followed by another Monday night in the 600-block of Springfield Avenue. Two of the drivers were delivering pizza, the other Chinese food. All working between nine and 10 at night. All the drivers were beaten up and their money taken. Police are recommending drivers don't deliver food at specific times. Amy Petrilli with Champaign Police Department says in one case, "The individual requested an exact time for the food to be delivered. Give them a time frame 45-minutes to a half-hour.. don't give an exact time." Police are also recommending delivery drivers call in once they arrive. The suspect is described as a black man in his 20's, about 6-feet tall, medium build and was wearing dark clothing. Twice he was with a woman in her 20's when the drivers arrived. If you have any information, call Champaign County Crimestoppers at 373-TIPS. You can also send in a text tip on your cell phone or a web tip . You don't have to give your name or testify in court and a reward is offered. |
