Reported by: Jenny Gastwirth/ WCIA 3 News Thursday, Oct 22, 2009 @10:39pm CDT 7 year-old Somer Thompson was found dead Wednesday in a Georgia landfill. She was last seen Monday walking home from school with her sister and friends. Police say they got into an argument and she took off. Her family has strong ties to Champaign and Ford counties. They lived in the area for many years. I caught up with a close family friend Thursday night. Janeene Bradley says she's devastated. The crime scene made her fall to the ground. She can't fathom who would take the life of an innocent child. Now she's calling on people here locally to help the Somer's family get by during this tough time. She says even complete strangers can try and understand what it must be like to lose a child.
To send letters to the family contact Bradley at ispecialangel@yahoo.com. A memorial fund has been set up at Vy Star Credit Union.
