With several family members active in the television
industry Adam Mikulich set his
sights on becoming a sportscaster at the age of eleven when he saw his famous
uncle Rick on TV for the first time.
“I’ve loved telling stories since I was a preschooler in my parents
living room and now I have the great fortune to do it for a living.”
Adam is a native of Snohomish,
Washington where he grew up in a
rural dairy farming community and was a very active student athlete. “In Snohomish we know two things- farming and
football. Funny how I missed out on the
football thing.” Adam was co-captain of
the varsity Cross Country and Swimming programs at Snohomish Senior High
School before graduating in 1996.
After high school it was a no-brainer. “On the West Coast anyone aspiring to work in
the media industry goes to Washington
State University!” Adam attended the Edward R. Murrow School Of
Communication at WAZZU for four years graduating in the year 2000 with a
degree in Communications and a huge emphasis on Sports Video. He also took a stab at acting with a minor in
theatre and even starred in an independent film in 1998.
After graduation Adam hit the floor running with a job at
Fox Sports Northwest in Bellevue,
Washington where he tried his
hands at countless facets of the industry.
“From Reporting to Producing I treated my time at Fox like a master’s
degree. I owe a lot to my mentors
there.” At Fox Adam covered the 2001 MLB
All Star Game in Seattle, Rick Neuheisel’s firing from the University Of
Washington in 2003, and the 2003 Rose Bowl.
Adam left Fox Sports for his first on-air job at KIFI in Idaho Falls, Idaho
in February of 2004. “The pay cut was
painful but the experience was priceless.
Plus, I learned how to fly fish on the amazing winds and bends of the
famous Snake River which I’ll never
forget.” Adam took over as Sports
Director at KIFI in the summer of 2005 and helped re-invent a great tradition
of high school sports coverage there. He
covered BYU’s run to back to back Las Vegas Bowl victories in 2006 and
2007. He followed Illini great Deron
Williams and the Utah Jazz in their run all the way to the Western Conference
Finals in 2007.
Now in Central Illinois Adam hopes to learn all the “ins and
outs” of the area and carry on the winning tradition at WCIA. “Everyone at WCIA takes community involvement
and telling the news very seriously. I’m
ready to try and make an instant contribution to that,” he says. “If you’re in this business and you’re
serious about this business you have to work your tail off to do something
great.”
In his spare time “Mik” loves running and staying
in-shape. He is an avid reader, writer,
loves to cook and is a life long fan of the Grateful Dead.
