Reported by: Dave Benton / WCIA 3 Monday, Aug 10, 2009 @02:47pm CDT CHAMPAIGN COUNTY - A bike rider was hit by a car and is recovering after surgery. But the driver's not been found. In Crime Watch tonight, investigators hope you may have seen the wreck or know something about the suspect. It happened Monday morning, July 6th along County Road 600 North at about 950 East. It's not far from Tolono on the main road into Sadorus. The bike rider was among several. Investigators say they had moved over to the side of the road when they heard the car from behind. Then the car tried to pass. Andrew Good with the Champaign County Sheriff's Office says, "The vehicle didn't move over far enough into the next lane and struck the bicyclist. The bicyclist was thrown off the road and that's where she, they sustained the injuries." Witnesses say the car didn't stop to see what happened. They describe the vehicle as a dark green sport utility vehicle similar to a Dodge Durango. It may have had damage to the front passenger side bumper. There is a chance it's been fixed. If you've seen the car or know something about what happened, call Champaign County Crimestoppers at 373-TIPS. You can also send in a text tip on your cell phone or a web tip . You don't have to give your name or testify in court and a reward is offered. |
