  • FAQ #2

Question: Are all dishwashers standard in size?

Answer: Most built-in dishwashers are either 18" or 24" in width. There are a few as wide as 30". The height of the dishwasher is equally, if not more important, than the width. The average height of a dishwasher is 34", which means you must have an opening of 34" in height for installation. This is measurement from the floor to the underside of the countertop.

Some customers have a shorter height for there opening due to a built-up floor. A built-up floor is flooring installed up to the dishwasher, but not under the dishwasher. This will shorten the height of the opening from the floor to the underside of the countertop. For customers in this situation, there are dishwashers available with shorter heights that will fit in those openings. In some cases the customer will not have sufficient height for the dishwasher.  In order to accommodate for this, the countertop can be lifted.
